Yes, I know. This is a hard problem for which I can't find any
solution.
This list is built on the fly :
-countrychooser embarks a short copy of the SUPPORTED file from the
locales package (this is not optimal, we should rather use a mini udeb
file with just this file, as we do for iso_3166.tab).
-when a language is chosen, the short country list is built on the fly
by looking in the SUPPORTED-short file and finding there the valid
locales
So, as the list is built during the countrychooser package postinst,
there are no available translations for the country names there.
Indeed, the translation are here....in the templates file for the long
list translation.
We just have to find a way to use these translations....
