If you have a floppy drive and a dos/windows rescue disk you can run
"fdisk /mbr". But I agree that it probably shouldn't write to the mbr
without asking first. I have had some trouble with grub writing a valid
mbr to disk on my p4, not during d-i but on a regular basis. The next
time I am in front of my desktop I will test it again, if it still
doesn't work I should probably file a bug.
