I am using PXE boot,
dists/woody/main/disks-i386/3.0.23-2002-05-21/bf2.4/tftpboot.img, to
install to an Acerpower 6100 (Pentium II).
It does not support my network card:

and required me to use a CD or floppy to supply the driver.
I inserted debian-30r1-i386-binary-1.iso, and the installer gave me a
selection of one set of modules from which to choose.
I was unable to read the full name of the file it offered; had it
located all the modules on the CD I would have been unable to select the
correct one.
The one it chose contained only 2.2 modules, of no use to my 2.4 kernel.
I suggest that
a) b-f be corrected so as to display the full name of the modules it
offers, if not the full path/name, then at least the distinguishing
part(s).
b) b-f be correct so as to not offer any modules incompatible with the
running kernel.
There is a related problem, so I won't file a separate report.
I eventually got my network driver in place as a foreign module, and
proceded to install from the default http server.
On rebooting, I find that it's installed a 2.2.20 kernel, without
offering me a choice, even though I chose to use a 2.4 kernel for
installation.
There are many machines that the 2.2 kernel simply would not boot,
including one here that has a hotrod 66 card in it:

For some time I ran Red Hat Linux booting from a drive on this
controller. It works well with 2.4, but afaik not at all with 2.2.
I suggest that b-f be changed to install a kernel from the same series
as that used for install: if the person installing chooses a 2.2 kernel,
then installing a 2.2.20 kernel is appropriate, but if 2.4 then
installing a 2.2 kernel is necessary.
