Please disregard my previous message.  I did find the "basedebs.tar"
and sucessfully built a boot CD with the 2.4 image.  Sadly the
original problem remains.  The Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103 still hangs
when booting 2.4.  It gets as far as:

	Compaq SMART2 Driver (v 2.4.21)
	Compaq CISS (v 2.4.5)

then hangs.  It sure looks as though it's necessary to get a kernel
without the "Compaq" drivers, or at least be able to disable them at
boot time?

Any suggestions?
