Package: installation-reports
Version: sarge
Severity: grave

I downloaded sarge-i386-netinst.iso and burned it. The CD boots correctly and after I start the network installation process by typing "net", the required ethernet module "sis900" is detected properly. Unfortunately, every attempt to load the module into memory is rejected and the system prints a message as following:
installer[52]: running cmd 'modprobe -v sis900 '
installer[52]: modprobe: Can't locate module sis900

Manually loading the NIC driver in a shell fails as well and my ethernet adapter is incompatible to any other module. After I changed into the .../net/ directory and listed all files there, I figured out that there are several modules for network adapters but the required file sis900.o seems to be missing. I definitely know, that this module exists and is working well (because I am using it under a debian based distribution called KNOPPIX) Unfortunately, it seems to be missing on the minimum installation CD. If there is any workaround (like loading my module from hda3), I will be grateful for your hints.

Regards, Florian

The sis900 module is now part of the nic-modules udeb. I believe this
problem is solved.
