Bug#215160: redraw problems with framebuffer and vt switching

Package: cdebconf
Version: 0.46
Severity: normal

I booted my sister Anna's computer, a old VA linux tower machine (full
HW data on request), using the d-i bootfloppy and root floppy set, built
by myself today. This included the 2.4.22 kernel, and the framebuffer
drivers. The vga16fb driver was loaded and I got a nice display. So far
so good.

Then I switched to vc 2 to open a shell. Then back to vc #1 where
main-menu was displayed. When I switch back though, I see whatever was
on the previous vc (the shell prompt) and not cdebconf. If I hit tab
then it draws buttons over top of this screen; if I hit enter then the
screen is restored as cdebconf displays the next question. ctrl-l also
redraws the screen except oddly, for the last line.

I don't see similar artifacts when switching between other vc's (eg, 2
and 4), so this seems to have something to do with cdebconf, which is
why I filed the bug here. I'd not be suprised if the real bug is deeper
down, in either the kernel itself, or the slang library.
