Around here you should have seen an option to detect CDROM.  Which
boot type did you use?  You need to use the cdrom type.  (I'm not sure
how the image you tested are working, so I can not tell you how to
choose which boot type to use.)

If d-i is able to detect an CD, the base-installer should use this CD
when installing.
