Bug#167240: BF2.4 installer kernel should NOT use VGA16 FB by default.

Package: boot-floppies
Version: 3.0.23-2002-05-21

The kernel used in the bf2.4 boot floppies for i386 seems to use the
vga16 FB by default. While this gives a cute little penguin logo on most
machines, it also gives a blank screen on many machines using an LCD
panel for it's display (at least on an SiS based system, and on my IBM
560X thinkpad, and a few others I have talked to people using).

Booting with video=vga16:off fixes the problem by eliminating the FB.
Does booting the installer with a framebuffer actually increase the
number of supported machines on i386 in any case? It certainly
decreases the number of machines I have seen it work on, and I can't
imagine any i386 machine that plain text mode would not work on. I
suggest the next boot-floppies for woody have this driver disabled by
default (could be as simple as setting the above setting installer's
syslinux config, but it would also have to be added to the lilo
parameters when setting up lilo during the install to avoid a problem on
first boot.)
