Indeed it does.  Changed to runlevel 1 on the laptop, installed
1.33.18, rebooted and base-config ran with no loops. Got the list of packages.

What is weird now is that dselect seems to have a list of... packages
from stable instead of woody!  And indeed /etc/apt/sources.list is
pointing to stable...  Ouch.
