Ok, this makes no seens without numbers to compare:

CVS from a few minutes ago without ths use of bzip2 (i386):
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      1443595 Mar  5 23:36 rootbf2.4.bin
with the usage of bzip2:
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      1361039 Mar  5 23:27 rootbf2.4.bin
(for i386, but should be similar on other arches)

BTW: with UPX from CVS it is possible to save around 70 kb on the rescue
disk, but I think this will only work for i386.
