If you don't have the floppy drive installed, but you downloaded the
images via FTP, then how are you booting?  From  a CD you burned
yourself?

Confused.

Why is it trying to open this device as root?  08:03 is /dev/sda3 I
think.  Wierd.  Well, tell us how you're booting at least (floppy, cd,
whatever).
