Bug#80325: how compact, vanilla and fdisk see the partition table
Hi Adam,
I have checked the kernel flavor of my boot floppies. It was 'vanilla',
as you probably expected.
Since you indicated that the kernel flavor might make a difference, I
also tried the root.bin and rescue.bin floppies of the 'compact' flavor,
which is the only alternative that makes sense on my machine. In each
case, I checked the option 'view partition table' immediately after the
installer started. For each flavor, here are the partition tables as the
installer sees them.

So there is no difference in the way 'vanilla' and 'compact' see the
Free BSD partitions. The difference is that 'compact' ignores some Linux
partitions on the extended partition.
Just to get the record straight, here is the partition table as seen by
fdisk. Also, this is essentially how the installers of Red Hat, OpenStep
and Free BSD see it. (Of course, Free BSD recognizes the BSD slices.)
