Package: rootdisk
Version: N/A

Using the current slink CD ROM set (alpha binary), I had trouble
installing Kernel and modules. I chose to install the kernel (jensen)
from the CD ROM using the floppy image taken from the list that is
produced. However, a message briefly flashed up saying "faulty loop
device detected, copying to local..." or some similar message. However,
the message was quickly covered by a new dialog and in any case the
"local" attempt also seemed to fail, but it just may have been over too
quickly. There did not seem to be any modules installed.

The next step was to try to "configure kernel modules". Unfortunately this
failed with a message that vanished almost instantly (depmod failure).

Also, any attempt to boot the kernels on the CD ROM according to the
instructions in the README for Alpha installs failed. I had originally
used the instructions in the SRM HOWTO (copyboot/minboot?) to get a kernel
onto the HD (it claims that the Jensen will not boot from a floppy).

Lastly, there is no "make the system boot directly from the HD" on the
menu, it might be useful to have an item which brings up the README
instead.

I will give things another go today.

Giuliano.

We believe that the bug you reported has been closed in the Potato
version of the boot-floppies. We may not have received a response
from you so we are closing this bug.

Please let us know if you find that the bug still exists in the potato
version of the boot-floppies, and we can re-open your bug.

Note that there are some temporary but serious problems with those
floppies you should know about on i386:

 - installation of base from floppy probably not working
 - the compact flavor may not work
