Package: DOS-Boot files (section 5.3.1)
     resc1440.bin, drv1440.bin, base2_1.tgz, root.bin, linux,
install.bat and loadlin.exe
     Version: 2.1

architecture: i386
model: Packard Bell 486sx-25, and a AMD K6-200
     memory: 8MB, 64MB
     scsi: none on either machine
     cd-rom: 486 - none, AMD Mitsumi 32 x
network card: none on either machine
     pcmcia: none on either machine
    hard drive: 486 - 120MB IDE, AMD 2.5GB Bigfoot and a 560 MB
Samsung
    video: 486 - on board, unknown, AMD S3 Virge 4MB, 3D

I am trying to follow your "install from hard disk" instructions
- section 5.3, and I can't open an initial console on either
machine. The AMD machine and the Packard Bell are night and day
with the only thing in common being the DOS filesystem and the
Debian files I am trying to run. Anyway, the common errors are
"Failed initialization of WD-7000 SCSI card", "Unable to load
NLS Charset cp437(nls_cp437)", "VFS: Mounted root (msdos
filesystem) readonly.", "Unable to open initial console."
The WD-7000 thing comes a few lines before the other three
messages on both machines, and the last three messages are the
last three on both machines. Resetting the Packard Bell then
gives me "GDT...flushing all host drives...done.", but not on my
AMD.
Please let me know if there is anything wrong with your install
from DOS routine.
Thank you,
Steve Doerr

Subject: bugs closed in potato boot-floppies

We believe that the bug you reported has been fixed in the potato
boot-floppies, such as version 2.2.8 or higher.

Note that many boot problems are fixed in 2.2.8 since they use the 2.2
kernels. There are many additional flavors of kernels for i386 as
well.

In some cases, bugs are closed due to lack of feedback from the user.

Many problems are also fixed by the inclusion of new packages from
Potato, such as makedev, modconf, etc.

The management of the boot sector has also changed, which solves many
problems.

We encourage you to test the potato boot-floppies on your system. If
your problem persists, please either respond to debian-boot and CC
your original bug and we will reopen the bug, or else submit a new bug
against the boot-floppies package.

Thanks so much for helping to improve the debian installation system.
