Subject: kernel 2.2.xx: invalid boot diskette
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Package: kernel-image-2.2.13
Version: 2.2.13-1

This bug is reported for the 2.2.13 version, but it applies to former
2.2.x packages.

The install process for the 2.2.x kernels does not produce workable boot
diskette:

During the install process, the user is prompted to make a boot
diskette.
While the diskette is recorded without any errors, it does not
succeed to further boot the system:
when launched, the boot process normally starts, and after some stepping
of the head,
an error message with the content of the CPU registers is repeated on
the screen.

It appears as the loading of the diskette is interrupted.

The only anomaly that could be pointed, is that the record written on
the [1.4M] diskette is 2020+1 blocks long,

This is not new with 2.2.13 kernel: all the boot diskettes of 2.2.x
kernel have the same problem.

G.A.

We believe the bug you reported has been fixed as of the Potato boot flopppies,
version 2.2.8. Please let us know if not.

Remember that often bugs are filed against boot-floppies, when the should
be filed against modconf, base-config, kernel-image-2.2.14, or other
related packages. Please do you best to track down which package is the
culprit when creating bugs.
