2.2.6 & 2.2.7 problems....
Hi all,
Haven't seen this flavor of the same problems that have been bashed to
death here, so I'll add my own experiences w/2.2.7.
I did a fresh load with the new 2.2.7 floppies (rescue, root, drivers
1-3) on a Dell 1300 this morning. I had to put my own kernel on the rescue
floppy since the imbedded drivers seem to be causing lockups on the PERC
raid controller in the Dell. (i did the rdev.sh bit and all).
I do get prompted for the keyboard config first thing, but I have to go
another VT and issue the command "mount -o remount /dev/root /" to get the
step to take ... "/" is mounted initially as read-only. I go through the
whole process, installing the driver disks and then using the NFS method to
get the base archive. After setting the system to boot from the hard drive,
I reboot and get the "respawning too rapidly" messages on the console ...
complaining about a file not being found in /tmp.
I got the system up by going to the other VT and running dselect from
there, then moving /etc/inittab.real to /etc/inittab, but I think I skipped
a whole bunch of (probably) critical steps, like setting the root password
and creating a user account.
Where these errors thought to be fixed in the 2.2.7 upload?
Thanks for listening!
