Bug#57701: Installation hangs when autodetecting ethernet
Package: boot-floppies
Version: 2.2.6
At the configure device driver step I select the Intel EtherExpress Pro
driver. I told it to autodetect. Although the message said this might
hang up the system for a minute, it actually hung it for good. I still had
use of other virtual terminals, but when I said ps in one of them, it hung
too.
I had to reboot. As detailed in a separate bug, I was unable to reaccess
the driver selection routine to remove the driver. Probably as a result, I
was forced into an inappropriate LAN type installation.
I have an Intel EtherExpress Pro 100 (I'm not sure if the driver I picked
is right for it, or only for the 10.)
The card is in the machine but IS NOT CONNECTED TO ANY NETWORK.
AMD K6-2/400 on ASUS P-2B motherboard.
Being forced into a network install may be a separate problem...
