What do you mean, "knowing the hardware"?

I agree that we kinda wash our hands of hardware issues in the
Installation Manual, insofar as it is possible to do so.  We do
actively point people to the Linux Doc Pages, especially, the hardware
HOWTO, supported hardware list, Laptop web pages, etc etc.

I appreciate that anyone takes the time to make suggestions. I just
wish in this case you had a more specific idea of what you want to be
in there that is not in there now.
