I installed hamm on the 3rd partition of my drive, and requested, during
installation, to have lilo installed on the MBR of the drive to boot
Debian as default.

Rebooted, lilo only said "2FA:" and froze. After a few hours and 7 or 8
reinstalls, I finally figured out that lilo was installing to /dev/hda3,
which was my / partition, and not /dev/hda as I requested. Changing that
fixed it immediately.

Be happy...
