Bug#37256: Boot disk crashes on HP NetServer E 50 after SCSI downloading

Package: boot-floppies
Version: 2.1.9-1999-03-03

Attempting to install slink on a Netserver E 50. Using either the
Debian 2.1 CD or a rescue floppy for booting, the kernel hangs
immediately after the aic7xxx module initializes (right after the '419
instructions downloaded'), requiring a an actual power cycle or hard
reset to recover. The root1440tecra.bin kernel boots normally but does
not recognize the adapter (doen't look like this kernel has SCSI
compiled in.)

The system is a PII 300 with an Adaptec 7880 controller.

Strangely, this system already has stock RedHat 5.2 installed on it,
working normally. Here is the output from /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0:

Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 5.1.7/3.2.4
