I would suspect "Warning: dblatex not found or not executable", and in
that case the fix would be 'apt-get install dblatex'.
Yeap as Petter said installing the dblatex should solve the problem. I just tested all the Makefile targets(pdf,dvi,ps) on debian testing and they work. Let me know if you need anything about the documentation :-)
