I guess any DD with the uid in backports ACL should be able to do that
isn't?
I've opened rt-ticket as described in [0] in order to get included.


In general, I'll be thankful if anybody with backports hat on would
sponsor the upload.

The main reason for the backport is annoying bug #891051 and the changes
between the version in stretch and testing include mostly bugfixes.
So in my humble opinion hdparm is a perfect candidate for
stretch-backports especially due to it's wide use.

The ready to be built source lives in debian/stretch-backports branch on
salsa.
