Assuming that you don't have APT::Default-Release set to stable/wheezy
and are therefore pinning backports to a higher priority value than
stable itself...the Debian backports instructions page [1]
specifically warns you against this practice:

"Backports cannot be tested as extensively as Debian stable, and
backports are provided on an as-is basis, with risk of
incompatibilities with other components in Debian stable. Use with
care!

It is therefore recommended to select single backported packages that
fit your needs, and not use all available backports."

The backports repo is pinned to a lower priority value by default for
the same reason as experimental. Install specific packages as needed
from backports; if you find that you need everything that backports
has to offer, you may as well upgrade to testing/unstable.
