However the backports dont show up in any package manager --

# aptitude -t wheezy-backports show libreoffice-gtk
Try "apt-cache policy libreoffice-gtk" instead:
| kibi@arya:~$ apt-cache policy libreoffice-gtk
| libreoffice-gtk:
| Installed: (none)
| Candidate: 1:3.5.4+dfsg2-0+deb7u2
| Version table:
| 1:4.1.4-2~bpo70+1 0
| 100 http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-backports/main amd64 Packages
| 1:3.5.4+dfsg2-0+deb7u2 0
| 500 http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages

Wild guess, aptitude is confused by your having two “wheezy-backports”
entry. Getting this here:
| kibi@arya:~$ aptitude -t wheezy-backports show libreoffice-gtk
| Package: libreoffice-gtk
| State: not installed
| Version: 1:4.1.4-2~bpo70+1

with only ftp.$CC.debian.org and security.d.o in sources.list

Mraw,
KiBi.

So the only solution is to apt-pin?
