Backport of schroot
Hi folks,
As requested following discussion on IRC earlier today, following
up here. I'd like to upload schroot version 1.4.27 to
squeeze-backports.
The current situation is this:
stable: 1.4.19-1+squeeze1
stable-backports: 1.4.22-1~bpo60+1
testing: 1.6.3-1
unstable: 1.6.4-3
I would like 1.6.4-3 to go into testing when ready. Currently
awaiting review from -release.
There are currently two stable branches: 1.4.x¹ and 1.6.x². Both
are being maintained; 1.4.x is essentially done at this point,
but is getting major bugfixes and security updates, but no
new features. 1.6.x gets the same, plus will get additional
functionality backported (but not to go into wheezy; it's
currently major bugfixes only).
For stable, I have backported recent major bugfixes to 1.4,
and released 1.4.27 [which is just 1.4.26 plus these fixes].
1.4.26 was the last 1.4 release in testing prior to 1.6.x
being released and superseding it. I have also backported
the same fixes to 1.4.19, in order to make a stable update
(1.4.19-1+squeeze2)³⁴. But since backports already has a
later release, I'd prefer to upload the most recent stable
release, which would be 1.4.27-1~bpo60+1⁵.
While I would ultimately like to put 1.6.4-3~bpo60+1 into
backports, this is not currently advisable: the 1.6.x
releases have not yet had extensive testing with the
stable/stable-backports toolchain and library versions,
while the 1.4.x releases have. Additionally, there are
some changes to the configuration file options (some
additional and some deprecated and obsoleted options).
While users will get these when upgrading to wheezy in
any case, 1.4.27 is absolutely compatible with the
versions in stable and stable backports.
