I've very surprised that nobody jumped on the package to upload it to
Squeeze Backports. I use Pidgin every day, and it's a very important

continuing to support you?

I'm a novice, that's my first RFS, and I haven't checked out who used to
upload pidgin backports before: I've simply made the package for me and
uploaded for others.

I believe that the thing you should first do, is ask the initial Debian maintainer what is his thoughts about a backport. Just pushing a backport like that, without any communication, is very bad practice, IMHO. What's just below proves me right...

I'm not sure if Michael Giannoulis is who has commonly uploaded pidgin
backports, but he did post a RFS[0] 3 days before your request.
