There is some part about "Please ask the maintainer before you do a backport"
in the doc and I think that the bts is the best way to ask the maintainer.
But I'll clarify that part.

If he is no longer interested in maintaining the backport he should speak up
and look for a new maintainer. Otherwise I would remove grub2 from bpo.
