Do you have gvim installed?

update-alternatives --config editor
There are 3 alternatives which provide `editor'.

  Selection    Alternative
-----------------------------------------------
      1        /bin/ed
 +    2        /usr/bin/mcedit-debian
*     3        /usr/bin/vim.gtk

Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number:

iirc before the last on had been /usr/bin/vim and not /usr/bin/vim.gtk

Maybe that explains why it change for me.
