This seems to be caused by stack-clash-protection. Try with:
ifeq ($(DEB_TARGET_ARCH),armel)
export DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS = hardening=+all,-stackclash
else
Interestingly, the problem does not affect armhf.
