Hello,

regarding the kernel: that depends on what you want to do with
it. If you intend to run the Cubietruck (Cubieboard3) as a
headless server, you can well use mainline 3.16, which is about
to enter unstable soon. It supports serial console, MMC/SD,
SATA, EHCI USB host, wired ethernet and WLAN (although I have not
tested the latter personally).

A KMS driver (for local display support) as well as a driver for
the audio engine in the Allwinner A10/A20 SoCs are work in
progress, but will probably still need quite some time before
they are ready.

If you need local display and audio support now, the only chance
is indeed using the linux-sunxi.org 3.4 kernel, although that has
its own share of problems.

The current state of Debian support for systems based on
Allwinner SoCs is documented in the Debian wiki at

https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Allwinner

(which will be updated again as soon as Debian-Installer switches
to kernel 3.16).

Karsten
