What your build commands / enviroinment ?

apt-get source xaos
cd xaos-*/
apt-get build-dep xaos
export CFLAGS="-mfpu=vfp -mfloat-abi=softfp -O2 -g"
dpkg-buildpackage -B

and xaos configured and build fine.
