You cannot change the cmdline in the NSLU2 RedBoot.  You need to use
APEX (either as a first or second-stage bootloader) to be able to do this.

FatSlugs require modifications to both the bootloader (for SDRAM config
changes) and the kernel (for cmdline changes).
