What are the right settings? Changing colour depth from 16 to 8 makes it put
the screen into a horrible mangled-screen graphics mode with what still looks
likes text and I can only get out of it by pushing the orange button on the
netwinder.

But that's progress - it looks like the server started. I have 1024x768 and
800x600 resolutions specified.

If someone can point me at a working netwinder XF86config-4 that would
eliminate some uncertainty.
