Could be, but I got the same error on glibc! It's very obvious to me that the
file specified in configure.in is actually there. As described in detail in my
11/3 message, I went into the configure script itself to print variables which
would reflect whether the file is there, and not only did it print the correct
variable values, but the act of printing the variables altered the behavior of
the script!! *Very* bizarre.

I've attached the log from the latest E attempt, this time it found the sources
but gave other errors. I think you'll agree something is very wrong with the
machine.

This is encouraging. It has seemed like we've lagged so far behind the other
ports for so long, even with important things like glibc and netbase, it was
hard to tell whether this was because people had stopped work on the port. The
vast majority of recent packages have seemed to be _all.debs like
documentation. But if an autobuilder is on the way then this will change soon.

Tried this, but haven't been able to build a kernel since the machine arrived.
I'll try 2.2.12 with the netwinder patch once again, but am not expecting
anything... The 2.2.10 kernel which I had running for a long time doesn't even
work.

Thanks. I've been trying to build the latest glibc ever since I first learned
to build from source in September (because of the conflict with libdb2), no luck
yet. The problem I reported on 11/3 was during a glibc build, no sources found,
just like E.

I don't know when the last glibc upgrade was for the port, but I think it was
before my machine arrived. Since these problems didn't start until late
October, I don't think the problem is glibc.

This is why I suspected hardware failure and sent the machine back to
Rebel.com. No luck there either.

My best guess is that I've misguidedly installed a _all.deb package which
results in a subtle conflict with one of the very old _arm.deb packages, giving
me all of these bizarre errors. But this should have been taken care of by
package dependencies, right?

I think I'll try to reinstall from a new image and go from there...

Thanks for the help and the responses, it's encouraging to hear voices out
there!
