No, but my interfaces file is slightly different; I have virtual
interfaces hanging off lo now.   IIRC it was the addition of those that
stopped it.

for lo?  Only this one:

    inet6 ::1/128 scope host 

There's one for eth0 but that isn't relevant, is it?
