Recently, accidently inserted an Itanium64 installer in an amd64 PC and there wasn't any feedback message at all ... just the DVD did not start. I wonder if it's just grub being architecture specific ? Nailing down the CPU is a tricky thing. Even if you install and use the 'cpuid' tool, you still might end up with Wikipedia...
