Can you try running some other 64-bit Linux on the 2010 computer, just to 
prove that it really *is* a 64-bit machine?  The sysresccd distribution 
includes both 32-bit and 64-bit kernels.  If you can't get a 64-bit kernel to 
run but you can get a 32-bit one to run, perhaps your machine is not really 
64-bit capable.
