USB not assigning device name to plugable drives?

I just noticed after a very recent Sid upgrade that any flash drive
plugged in gets no drive label attached to it. Something's obviously
changed, but I can't track it down. Google doesn't help, at least with
the keywords I used. The typical dmesg I get is as follows:

-----
[203436.541034] usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and
address 8
[203436.674940] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=1234,

[203436.674944] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,

pmount and fdisk -l show nothing. I'm using fluxbox, not gnome or KDE.
