amd64 is not an official port (yet) so you have to use a different
mirror.  The list in the installer doesn't know that (last I checked
anyhow).  You can manually enter amd64.debian.net as the mirror, and it
should work.

There are also live CDs for amd64 as far as I know, if you just want
something quick to play with.
