I had a similar SATA problem a while back: the drive(s) and modules were
there by the time I got the machine, but not during boot.

My workaround was to remove them from fstab and put a mount command in
the "local" rc file.

Not kosher, I know, but it took care of a buglet until Linus and his
friends got it fixed.
