Sure that is dpkg doing its job.  Keeping you from doing anything wrong.

If the option has the letters "force" in it, then it is a bad idea.

It might work, it might not work, it might make a complete mess of
things.

Just put it in a 32bit chroot, and you can still run it just fine.
