I do also have an ASUS A8V with 2 SATA disks, one on each controller (Via
and Promise) and everything works fine

here are the results with bonnie++ on both disks :

1st disk on sata_via :
Model: ST3160827AS       Rev: 3.42

2nd disk on sata_promise :
Model: ST3160023AS       Rev: 3.00

Version 1.03 ------Sequential Output------ --Sequential Input- --Random-
                    -Per Chr- --Block-- -Rewrite- -Per Chr- --Block-- --Seeks--
Machine        Size K/sec %CP K/sec %CP K/sec %CP K/sec %CP K/sec %CP  /sec %CP
adren         1700M 38849  74 45437  14 20890   7 41041  69 48720   6 135.9   0

                    -Create-- --Read--- -Delete-- -Create-- --Read--- -Delete--
              files  /sec %CP  /sec %CP  /sec %CP  /sec %CP  /sec %CP  /sec %CP
                 16  1821  97 +++++ +++ +++++ +++  2132  98 +++++ +++ 10264  95
adren,1700M,38849,74,45437,14,20890,7,41041,69,48720,6,135.9,0,16,1821,97,+++++,+++,+++++,+++,2132,98,+++++,+++,10264,95

please note that these tests have to be taken with a grain of salt :

the partitions are not equivalent : much different in size and the one on
the via was freshly created while the promise is huge + already
populated with lots of existing files

I hope to be able to run the same tests on both drives soon under the
(almost) same conditions

anyway, one can maybe conclude that via is faster than promise on this
motherboard
