I went through the list of dependencies that looked like this:

	dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libwrap0-dev | libwrap-dev zlib1g-dev | libz-dev libssl-dev libpam0g-dev | libpam-dev libgnomeui-dev (>= 2.0.0) | libgnome-dev

one at a time in that order, installing each package and then trying
to build from source again. The list got shorter, but things got
blocked at:

	% apt-get install libpam-dev
	Reading Package Lists... Done
	Building Dependency Tree... Done
Note, selecting libpam0g-dev instead of libpam-dev
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
	that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
	  libpam0g-dev: Depends: libpam0g (= 0.76-22) but 0.76-22.0.0.1.amd64 is to be installed
	E: Broken packages

which would appear to be the problem I suppose.

Where to go from here? It looks like a "depends" problem, but should
I file this as a bug with the openssh package, or is that not the
right place because we're unofficial (or for some other reason....I'm
far afield here.)

Thanks,
