can't find shared libs after chroot created

Hi

Following the instructions at http://alioth.debian.org/docman/view.php/30192/21/debian-amd64-howto.html i created a chroot environment after a successful installation of using the amd64 archives. All seemed to go well as I tested the first application under chroot and it started ok. however soon after this I noticed that nothing would work anymore.

Selecting any application from the gnome menu would do nothing. Entering a command in an open terminal would give me responses like

Error while loading shared libraries: libX11.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

I panicked and rebooted. Now gdm will not start either with the same error as above. Logging in and entering startx brings up a similar error with a different x11 library stated as missing. I have checked and the libs are there. It almost sounds like a path issue somewhere??? I'm versed enough to know where that sort of thing is set.

I removed the fstab entries to my chroot and rebooted hoping this would help. It didn't.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any idea what mayhave gone wrong and how to fix it???

Is there any additional info I can provide?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Takis
