basic biarch for amd64

Hi,

So, I talked to a few of the developers in the past, and they explained to
me that the debian multiarch port was actually happening.

My problem is that I need to setup a new workstation install for a bunch of
machines, and I'm trying to use the opportunity to switch to Debian. Except
that I need to start doing this now, so I'll need to improvise until
multi-arch is ready (is sometime this year likely? or next year?)

We already have a custom toolchain to build 64 binaries, static or dynamic,
and my only requirement for now is to be able to run 64 binaries on them.
Static only would be ok initially.

I'm getting quite a bit of push to go with RedHat FC3 due to their working
biarch support.

At this point, I'd be much better off with a single debian 32 bit base
pushed to all machines (32 and 64 bits) so that I don't have to maintain two
sets of packages.
My only requirement for the 64 bit machines is to be able to run custom
compiled 64bit binaries on them.

While debian doesn't really support bi-arch, is it feasible for me to get
a few binaries and run 64bit binaries as long as I install a 64bit kernel?

I ran strings on an amd64 binary I just compiled and it wants
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

Can I just steal that and whatever /lib64/libc.so is required from a RH FC3
system, or maybe even some debian source, and be on my way?
(that'd be in addition to running your amd64 kernel)

Thanks,
Marc
