This is a bug in latest 2.6.10 based amd64 debian kernels, most (all?) SMP systems fail to boot kernel-image-2.6.10-9-amd64-k8-smp version 2.6.10-4. UP work fine, though. We are still working on a fix. In the meantime, 2.6.8 kernels should work, and I will upload old kernel-source-2.6.10 version 2.6.10-4 based packages to an extra directory on alioth as soon the build has finished.
