Grub problem?
I don't use grub at all. I have the first disk partition
formatted for DOS and use the loadlin.exe program to boot
Linux.
I had an old MSDOS available. There is also a FreeDOS that
is reported to work. I have never used syslinux that also
boots from a sort of Linux partition or something instead of
using a bootsector bootloader like grub or lilo.
The loadlin.exe is run from the C:> prompt. That is the same
as my IDE hda1. I use that to boot my SATA sda Linux root
partition. The grub is still modifying my sda bootsector
whenever I dpkg a new kernel except my hda is the boot disk
with C:> not sda so I don't even use grub.
Be sure to run grub if you install a new kernel without
using dpkg. If grub works then that might be lucky so far. I
don't use grub so can't comment further.
