I'm seeing several second mount times for big ReiserFS partitions as
well at every boot.  I was assuming it is doing some sort of sanity

Yes. I hadn't thought it was specific to LVM, though, since I have much smaller filesystems in the same volume group that mount more or less instantly. Then again, I haven't tried without it.

It's too bad. I want the machine to boot faster, but I don't want to switch filesystems. :)
