Sarge and the amd64 archive
Hi,
I've got some questions regarding sarge and the amd64 archive residing on
alioth. I have the following lines in sources.list:
deb http://debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org/debian-pure64 sarge main contrib non-free
deb-src http://debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org/debian-pure64 sarge main contrib non-free
This should be correct according to what I've read on this list.
During the last weeks I've tried several dist-upgrades, but no packages
are available for upgrade. Not necessarily something wrong with that,
but I found it a bit strange. Just out of curiosity I tried replacing
"sarge" with "sid", but this didn't seem to make any difference. After
doing further research I have found that the "Packages" files for sarge
and sid are identical, and none of them have been changed since 15.
December.
I'm also finding more missing packages now than earlier, i.e. gimp and
rpm. All this leads me to believe that my sources.list is incorrect, but
I can't seem to find any other working sources. I was using
deb http://debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org/sarge sarge main contrib non-free
before, but here the "main" directory is missing. So, I guess the
question is: What is the correct debian-amd64 sarge source?
By the way, which distibution/port would you recommend for a dual
Opteron server running mail, web and DNS? Is the unofficial sarge port
suitable or maybe Ubuntu is a better alternative?
