I am going to be upgrading my Athlon XP workstation (running

decide whether to use the AMD64 port or to stick with the IA32 port.

According to the FAQ at

 - For workstations, some applications have problems - most notably
mozilla and its derivatives, and Openoffice.org porting efforts have

I occasionally use Java, I don't use Openoffice, and I regularly use
Firefox.

Firefox itself runs without problems here, but I don't use proprietary
plugins (e.g. Java or Flash), so I cannot comment on them.

I'm using firefox and the blackdown java re & pluggin. Things seem to be OK.
